I love the Harvestime shout out. It's an institution!

They also sell their loaves of bread which are fantastic for making sandwiches at home

Question, did the vegan ginger tofu banh mi have tofu skin or regular tofu? It sounds like it was personal favorite, tofu skin. No mayo / no butter sounds like a Vegan bias. I definitely need a tasty lube with that much bread.

Thanks for the lovely trip down memory lane. I can absolutely vouch for Nhu Lan’s lemongrass tofu! It was my go-to when I lived 2 blocks away and got their banh mi with embarrassing frequency. Back then they were like $4, though. Weirdly, I do think I always had to ask for mayo on my sandwich. I always thought it was because theirs has fish sauce in it, and that would have made the sandwich non-vegetarian, but seems odd that they wouldn’t just ask if you want it when you order.

Note: the Uptown location at Sheridan & Lawrence is ALSO pretty much carryout only.

My go to there is the #5 -the pork roll Banh Mi. The pate on it is so good. I tend to skip the jalapenos as they tend to put big pieces in those sandwiches and it too much sometimes for me.
