Despite writing about food for a living, there’s a lot of places in Chicago I haven’t been to yet. That’s part of why writing The Party Cut is so much fun—I have a valid excuse to go visit all of them.
After I grabbed carnitas and barbacoa for last week’s edition of the newsletter, I ran some errands in Chinatown. Since I’m not in the area super often, on my way back home, I made the last-minute decision to stop by a place that I woefully hadn’t been to yet in all the years Chicago has been my home.
It’s considered to be the birthplace of one of Chicago’s signature, but lesser talked about street food items, which also happens to be one of my favorite. And the place also sells a sandwich with a built-in hazard to it. If you’re a Chicago lifer and reading between the lines right now, I have a feeling you know just which place I’m talking about.
