Hi, everyone!
I promise I’m still here. Life has been an incredible rollercoaster lately; in the past few weeks I’ve dealt with new management at my day job (I’m fully remote now), and I’m now recuperating from another round of eye treatment, which is about as fun as it sounds.
Somehow, however, I did manage to thread a very delicate needle, and in a very tight window during all this upheaval, I managed to link up with local social media personality Adam Witt (formerly known as Omnivorous Adam) to film a really fun video.
Before I dig into the dogs, here’s a little background on Adam: He’s an energetic content creator who mainly specializes in cooking at home, but what I really like about his approach is that he really values his ties to Chicago. Many of his videos include teaching the internet about Chicago’s hometown foods, including pizza and Maxwell Street polishes, and he makes sure to do his research along the way. If there’s a culinary subject he’s not well-versed in, he’ll feature a guest, like Mike Satinover from Akahoshi Ramen, to teach him how to make things like tsukemen.
So Adam, his video guy Frankie, and I, went on an eight stop tour of Chicago area hot dog stands—including ones that weren’t on my list for Bon Appétit magazine.
We visited, in this order:
Byron’s Hot Dogs
Flub a Dub Chub’s
Wiener’s Circle
The Vienna Beef Factory Store
35th St. Red Hots
Jimmy’s Red Hots
Gene and Jude’s
Superdawg
And if you’re wondering, yes, I’m very tired of hot dogs. Both eating them and talking about them, so hopefully I can recuse myself from the subject for a little while. Unfortunately, I appear to have made my bed as “the hot dog guy” for now, so I may have screwed myself over.
By the way, feel free to poke fun at my scraggly little mustache and my man-bun ponytail thing, because my parents sure do. And also, Davida thinks it’s the funniest thing in the world that an onion shoots out of my mouth around the 4:42 mark in the backseat of Adam’s car.
Once you’ve enjoyed the video, please remember to subscribe to Adam’s YouTube channel, and you can also enjoy his work on Instagram and TikTok, where he’s got a particularly sizeable following.
For now, my condition is still up in the air, but your words of encouragement have made these discouraging past few months a lot easier to handle. Davida and I did happily manage to check out a really fascinating restaurant recently (it was her pick!). We’re eager to share that information with you, so I hope to slowly cobble that edition of that newsletter together and get that out to you in the near future. Baby steps.
I’ve missed you all so very much, so just know there’s nothing more I want to do than to sit and write and share cool food with you again, here in beloved Chicago.
Because Chicago fucking rules.
Thank you all for continuing to be here at The Party Cut. I realize it’s been frustratingly slow-going lately, and your patience with me has been so wonderful.
That’s all. You’re the best.
At least vary up the holes you’re using to ingest them.
Really hoping everything turns out okay. You’re such a ray of light.
